ATHENS CHRISTMAS VIBES

Christmas in Athens is indeed a fantastic time to visit. Far fewer travelers flood the streets than in the summer, yet wherever you go (shops, cafes, bars in the cities and urban communities) people are welcoming and open-hearted.
In the heart of the city is Syntagma Square and its Christmas tree is lit there. On the trees in the square are hung yellow and white lights or various decorations, such as lamps or small Christmas boats. Feel the Christmas vibes wash over you as you walk down the city's largest shopping street called Ermou. Excellent choice to discover Greek jewelry, the technical shops in Monastiraki or in squares such as Agia Irini. For top boutique shopping and a look at what Greek architects are exhibiting, head to the upmarket Kolonaki district and Voukourestiou Street.
Athenians love to go out every night of the week and especially towards the end of it. The occasions are no exception, which makes the Christmas season a great time to experience Athens' nightlife. Exploring at night is one of the best Christmas things to do in Athens. Enjoy a dinner in a conventional tavern to sample a wide range of traditional Greek dishes and join in the singing. If you prefer to stay out until dawn, reserve a table at one of the top bouzoukis to watch Greek Folk and pop stars sing in front of their fans. For a more laid-back night, enjoy ouzo as the sun sets at a city or ocean ouzo. Athens also has an excellent wine bar scene, enjoy your evening with a glass of Greek wine and tune in to relaxing music.
